The first example of this Halloween collaboration was October 2020's Crush Sour Patch Kids Berry soda, the second example of this was VooDEW (2023), and the third VooDEW (2024).

This collaboration isn't the first partnership with a candy and a soda outside of Mountain Dew.

The VooDEW (2023) flavor is a collaboration with a 'Top Halloween candy brand' meaning that the flavor reveal will be a brand name and not a generic name such as 'Sour Candy Flavor.'.

VooDEWgrim has been inactive since 2022 and has taken a break for this year from social media. There's a Twitter account named ' VooDewGrim,' endorsed by the official Mountain Dew Twitter account.This flavor is the seventh Halloween-themed flavor to release, the first being Pitch Black (2004), the second being Pitch Black II (2005), the third being VooDEW (2019), the fourth being VooDEW (2020), the fifth being VooDEW (2021), the sixth being VooDEW (2022), and the eighth being VooDEW (2024).It is slated to be officially released in stores on September 11th, 2023 throughout the United States for a limited time in 12-packs, 7.5-ounce mini cans 8-packs, and 20-ounce bottles until November 3rd. Most of these are canceled except for the recently-discontinued Summer release of Baja Blast and the current release of VooDEW (2023). Since this VooDEW flavor was a Mystery Flavor, people who have tried it have drawn comparisons to some sort of cherry candy, or a chalky candy, or other various types of candy. It was confirmed to be a collaboration with a 'top Halloween Candy brand' - marked the first time Mountain Dew has partnered with a candy brand for the VooDew line. VooDEW (2023) was a Mystery Flavor of Mountain Dew and had a white look with a similar theme to Mountain Dew's other Halloween flavors.
